"Senpai is a bit.../Senpai, don't you ever get angry?" (センパイって、ちょっと…／センパイって怒らないんですか？, Senpai tte chotto…/Senpai tte okoranai ndesu ka?) is the first episode of the Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san anime series.

Plot

After the end of classes, an introverted second year high schooler walked into the library expecting to find it empty, only to discover a group of four girls actually went there to chat. He tried to concentrate on his homework, however after a kogal from the group got closer to him in order to look for a book, he caused the the pages of a manga he drew to fall on the floor, being thus spotted and mercilessly criticized by the girls, until one of them got a text from a friend, prompting them all to go except from one, who introduced herself as a first year student, thus calling him her "Senpai, and commenting the manga protagonist - whon she identified as Senpai's self insert - as "pitiful"; showing him that he will never be able to perform such a manly act as caressing the female lead's hair due to a virgin-looking character like him being unable to. The girl then called his character "flat" reducing him to tears and commenting his behavior as "creepy", however, before to go home she wiped his tears away with her handkerchief, cheerfully apologized and left it to him as a present.

After having returned home, the boy was hunted in his dream by the humiliations endured by that kōhai the previous day. The following afternoon, the girl approached him out of the room of the art club he was part of and gave her back her laundered handkerchief; however she followed him inside the room, offering him to be his model as an apology for having bullied him the previous day. The boy tried to refuse but he was soon convinced out of embarrassment after the girl teased him, promising to give him "a prize" if he made a good paint of her; however all he managed to do is a sketch, prompting the girl to ask him to close his eyes and gave him a flick on the nose, laughing at him for expecting a kiss. Senpai tried to cover his face in order not to show he was crying, but the girl pulled his arms apart, pulled his arms apart mocking him for how weak he is, which caused him to cry again prompting her to kindly wipe his tears once more.

Later, walking back home together, she teased Senpai repeatedly first asking him to go out with her and then stating that no girl would ask him something similar for real. Then, seeing he didn't reacted, the girl asked him why he didn't get angry, pointing out she was really mean to him, however Senpai remember that he was bullied since early childhood, thus being accustomed to it. After the girl suggested he actually has a crush on her, he told her to "put that aside" and admitted that despite finding her annoying he doesn't dislike talking with her. Smiling, the girl told him to stop calling her "Miss" thus, after he asked for her name, she introduced herself as "Nagatoro".

Trivia

The episode is the adaptation of Chapter 1, 2 and 3, however there are a few differences:
- In the manga Sakura is the first character to have a spoken line after Senpai's stream of consciousness, while in the anime is Gamo-chan, followed by Yoshi and Sakura is the third, preceding even Senpai's stream of consciousness.
- In the anime Sakura has short hair since the first episode, while in the manga she cut them around Chapter 27, appearing with long hair in the first two.
- In the episode Senpai actively causes the pages of the manga he drew to fall and be seen by the girls due to his nervousness, while in the manga it was an accident caused by the way he left his schoolbag on the table.
- Nagatoro is alone when meeting Senpai in front of the art club for the first time; in the manga, she is seen hanging out with Sakura and another unnamed girl before approaching him.
- Chapter 3 was adapted as the afternoon right after when Nagatoro first go in the art club room, while in the manga it was the following day.
- The flashback showing Senpai being bullied since early childhood actually depicted him as a child, while in the manga only shown his early teenhood.
- When Nagatoro jokingly pushes Senpai away, he rolls down the street and into the nearby river; in the manga, he simply falls onto the ground.
